More About Amy
Amy Scrivner is a graduate of Olathe South High School, a nonprofit leader, and a candidate for Overland Park City Council Ward 3.
After graduating from high school, Amy Scrivner did what a lot of young folks in Kansas do - she left. Amy found a calling in nonprofit work and has helped raise millions of dollars for historic preservation, social services, healthcare, workforce development, veterans, and people with disabilities. She currently serves as Development and Communications Director for BikeWalkKC.
In 2016, Amy returned to Kansas to help care for her father after her mother died. As her father’s dementia and health problems grew, Amy and her family had to take away his car keys. It was devastating for everyone. Her dad is a retired Olathe letter carrier and a proud retired Chief Master Sergeant of the Kansas Air National Guard; the ability to drive was a core part of his identity. Taking away his car keys stripped him of his independence and freedom.
The experience left Amy with a desire to do something to help older adults preserve their independence and dignity when they are no longer able to drive–and to lessen the burden and challenges that their adult children and families face when that time comes. As that generation ages, communities must be prepared to offer housing, transportation, and other options that preserve independence.
Amy and her husband Chris live within walking distance of her father’s memory care facility. She sees firsthand the benefits of creating neighborhoods that are connected to the places where we all need and want to go, and that offer residents the choice to walk, bike, take the bus, or drive to get there.
